Parashat Pinchas represents the beginning of the leadership of a new generation, with Pinchas, Elazar, and Yehoshua all assuming new leadership roles. The elders, however, were aghast at the difference between Moshe and his successors. Were they right? Does Jewish leadership emphasize experience and wisdom, or fresh perspectives and youthful vigor? Should Judaism look towards the future or emphasize its past? In this podcast, Rabbi Scott Kahn connects these questions with the beginning of the Three Weeks of mourning for the Temple, as well as to the beginning of a new cycle of daily Rambam learning.
